Functions, queues & jobs

Small bits of code that run when they're needed.

A webhook receiver, a redirect, a form handler, a nightly export. Write a function in the portal's editor and it's live at its own address, sleeping when nobody calls it. Add a queue for background work and schedule jobs in your own time zone.

Who it's for

Made for the way small businesses work

Glue between services

Webhooks and forms

Receive a webhook from Stripe or a form, check it, and pass it on, without running a server.

Background work

Queues

Hand slow work to a queue so the person clicking the button never waits.

Things that happen on a schedule

Scheduled jobs

Call a URL, run a function, a container or a command inside one of your apps, on a timetable.

Features

What you get

JavaScript and TypeScript

Web-standard fetch(request, env) handlers, the same API as Deno and Cloudflare Workers.

Sleeps when idle

A function starts on the first request and stops after 15 quiet minutes. You pay only while it runs.

Versions and roll-back

Every deploy is a version. Roll back to the last good one in a click.

Queues

Send, receive and acknowledge messages over HTTP, with retries and dead letters, or deliver them to a function.

Scheduled jobs

Cron in your own time zone, with retries, time limits and the output of every run.

Logs and metrics built in

Every function shows its logs, requests, duration and errors in the portal.

my.kagen.cloud/jobs
The Scheduled jobs page in the portal: three jobs with their schedule in America/Chicago, last run and next run

Cron, with a history

Each job shows when it runs in your time zone, whether the last run succeeded and what it printed. Runs never overlap, and failed runs are retried.

  • Call a URL, run a function, a container or a command in an app
  • Your time zone, not the server's
  • Run history with output

Questions

What's a GB-second?

A function using 1 GB of memory for one second. A 128 MB function running for 200 ms uses 0.025 GB-seconds, so the included 100,000 cover millions of short requests.

Can functions use npm packages?

Yes. npm and JSR imports are resolved when you deploy, so a function starts without downloading anything.

Can a function reach my database?

Functions reach the internet and your public services. For private resources, run the code on a server or as an app on your private network.

What does a small project cost?

Most small projects stay inside what's included and pay nothing for functions, queues or jobs.
